Bombay Food Junkies: The Kitchen Behind Plant Italia

Plant Italia runs out of the same building as Bombay Food Junkies. That’s 12955 Olive Blvd in Creve Coeur. We share more than an address, though. We are Bombay Food Junkies.

Ours is the Italian menu that grew out of their kitchen. The same family opened this storefront back in 2020. Ask us who taught us to cook, and the honest answer is Chef Krupa. She wrote the Bombay Food Junkies menu long before she wrote ours.

Bombay Food Junkies serves Bombay street food and Indian-inspired fusion. Every bit of it is plant-based. You’ll find sandwiches, bowls, chaats, and baked goods on the menu. Think of the food you’d eat standing on a street corner in Mumbai, then picture it made for a strip mall in west county.

Good vegan chaat is hard to find around here. It’s the dish our own staff orders most on lunch breaks. The baked goods case is worth a look too, especially if you’re used to vegan bakery items feeling like an afterthought.

chef krupa’s fingerprints are on both menus

Krupa built the flavor base for Plant Italia too. Eat at both restaurants in the same week and you’ll notice it. Both kitchens lean on bold spicing. Both layer heat with sweetness rather than picking one over the other.

The food doesn’t apologize for being filling, either. Knowing her Bombay menu makes our Italian one make a lot more sense. It’s the same person deciding how much spice and salt a dish actually needs.

friday nights are worth planning around

On Fridays, Bombay Food Junkies runs an all-you-can-eat sampler. The kitchen brings a small portion of nearly everything on the menu straight to your table. It’s the easiest way to try the whole lineup in one sitting, with no guessing at a menu you’ve never seen before.

We send first-time visitors there constantly. It never seems to disappoint.

the space itself

The room feels chill and a little quaint. Indoor and outdoor seating are both available. Currently open from Monday to Saturday 11:30AM to 8:30PM. Sundays are for Family.

Nothing about the atmosphere tries too hard. That fits the food.
